MAG is a brand of European set-top boxes for modern operators. Manufactured by Infomir, the devices run Android TV and Linux. The MAG devices power over 4,500 IPTV/OTT projects launched in 150 countries since 2001.
The MAG4xx devices are powered by the HiSilicon Hi3798MV200 chipset, and the MAG5xx ones by Amlogic S905X2. The latter is 25% more powerful and includes a better GPU, enabling the new MAG devices to play 4K HDR content at 60 fps.
We have selected a few principle set-top box specifications, which operators should take into consideration:
Specification | Why it is important |
---|---|
Operating system | The OS determines the cost and time required for integrating the set-top box with the operator's middleware, ease of troubleshooting, user experience, customization options, and the availability of an app store. |
Chipset | The more powerful the chipset is, the more smoothly the device will play high-res content and run demanding applications. |
Ethernet/Wi-Fi | The connection speed should exceed the bit rate of your content. Otherwise, the playback may become choppy. |
Video and audio codecs | Set-top boxes need to support the delivered content streams to work within the operator's infrastructure. |
The -w3 devices are equipped with the 2TR2 802.11 b/g/n/ac built-in Wi-Fi module. This module is also installed in the MAG500A Android TV set-top box.
The MAG Linux and Android TV devices meet all the IPTV/OTT market requirements. Therefore, many operators worldwide can use them.
