From an Expensive Android Box to a Lower-Cost Alternative: How a US IPTV Operator Cut Bulk Costs

Project overview
The client is a US-based IPTV/OTT service provider that equips its subscribers with set-top boxes for its own IPTV service. Looking for a lower-cost alternative to its existing Android box supplier, the operator tested a single Infomir set-top box before placing two 12-unit bulk orders in the months that followed.
Challenge
The operator had been supplying its IPTV subscribers with Formuler Z-Mini boxes, but the rising per-unit cost was cutting into margins as the subscriber base grew. Its founder described the need directly to Infomir's sales team:
“I am looking into your Google TV streaming boxes. I am looking for a better solution for my customers to use my IPTV. We have been using the Formuler Z-Mini, but it is getting expensive. For my customers, I need a bulk rate for the boxes.”
The requirement was specific: a comparable streaming set-top box that could replace the Formuler Z-Mini at a lower bulk cost, without asking subscribers to learn a new, more complex interface.
Solution
Infomir proposed its set-top box in a US-market configuration. The device gave the operator's subscribers a familiar streaming interface with built-in casting support and access to a full app catalog, at a per-unit cost that held up once the order moved from a single sample to a full batch.
Implementation
-
Test unit
The operator ordered a single set-top box unit (US configuration) to test with its subscribers.
-
First bulk order: 12
After confirming the device met its needs, it placed its first bulk order of 12 units (US configuration).
-
Second order: 12
About six weeks later, it placed a second order of 12 more units at the same volume.
-
Ongoing supply
The partnership continues, with Infomir supplying set-top box units for the operator's subscriber base on an ongoing basis.
Results
-
25 units
Supplied to date across three orders
-
3 orders
1 test unit and 2 bulk orders
-
2 bulk orders
12 units each, about six weeks apart
- Sample unit converted into a bulk order within about six weeks of first contact.
- Two repeat orders of 12 units each, with no drop in order size.
- 25 units (US configuration) supplied to date across three orders.
- An ongoing supply relationship, with the operator continuing to order at the same volume.
